About TaxVisa
Last reviewed: 25 September 2026 · Reviewed by TaxVisa
TaxVisa is a visa-and-tax guide that explains how each Portuguese residence route tends to shape your tax position, before you apply.
What the site is for
Most people choose a Portuguese visa first and think about tax later. By then, the route they picked has often decided whether they become tax resident and whether a regime such as IFICI is even possible. TaxVisa puts both questions on the same page.
Who it helps
Non-EU citizens weighing the D7, D8, D2, D3, Tech Visa, Golden Visa or job-seeker routes. Retirees, remote employees, freelancers, founders and investors who want a realistic picture of the tax that follows each route.
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens need no visa, but the tax sections apply to them too.
Editorial approach
- We lead with figures and rules, and we say plainly when a route is unlikely to lead to a tax benefit.
- Every page includes an honest downsides section.
- The visa × tax matrix runs entirely in your browser. It stores nothing and sends nothing.
- Where a rule depends on your contracts or history, we say so rather than guess.
How facts are checked and dated
We base figures on official Portuguese sources first, such as Portal das Finanças, Diário da República, AIMA and the national visa portal, and on published professional guides second. Each page lists its sources and shows the date it was last reviewed. Figures on this site reflect the rules as of September 2026. Income minimums follow the 2026 minimum wage of €920 a month and will change when it changes.
Commercial relationships
Some pages link to specialist services we have a commercial relationship with. We only link where we think the service genuinely helps.
